I hear women complaining all the time that they have trouble picking the right foundation. I can’t really blame you cause there is far to many brands to chose from, but if companies could get the color shades perfect this would be amazing. You see just like most things there is an art to finding the perfect shade, texture, weight, and application for you.

Here are a few things to take into account when shopping for a foundation for your skin.

Skin tone — some call it skin color or skin shade but we all know what we really want is the perfect color which matches us to a “T”; The one that looks like a second skin and doesn’t give telltale signs that we’re actually wearing it.

The magic formula is undertones; Do you know what color undertones you have??

They range in so many different colors, the lighter complexions range from pink to the deeper ones in orange and red. Look for a foundation that has your correct undertones and you won’t go wrong. For women of color try makeup brands which specialize in colors for you. They will probably have a wider selection.

Skin type — Knowing if your skin is oily, dry, sensitive, or combination makes it easy when choosing the right formula. Most oily complexions will do well with oil free and mineral foundations, where as dry complexions are better off using cream or liquid types which can provide more moisture. For combo skin cream to powder types work well. It’s best to try different formulas to see what works best. Remember not all brands or formulas are made equal.

Application Process — The “how to” is a very big part of creating a flawless face. It doesn’t make sense to buy a foundation which is easy for the sales person to apply but doesn’t work for your skill level or lifestyle.

Test before buying so that you actually know how to use your foundation and get professional results. Sample three shades that are close to your natural skin colors and apply on jaw line: stand next to a window (or step outside) with a mirror to see which shade works best in natural light. The best shade is the one you can’t see because it blends in so well.

Here are some Beauty Full of Color Favorite Picks

1. Bobbi Brown — Best stick foundation

2. Iman second to none oil-free makeup w/spf — Best inexpensive liquid

3. Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer — Best light weight and Best Pricey

4. Black Opal — Best inexpensive Drugstore Brand

In a world of endless beauty products, why should you spend for a quality foundation? Maybe the question should be why wouldn’t you? All foundations are not created equal.

Here are 5 Reasons to Choose the Best

1. Be an individualist—Chose a foundation that suits your lifestyle, skin type, and skin tone. Just because your girlfriend uses a particular foundation doesn’t mean, it will work for you.

2. Set the tone for the rest of your face. Think of your face as a canvas of a beautiful portrait—If you want a beautiful face you’ve gotta have a beautiful canvas in which to lay the color. In other words the flawlessness of the complexion is a huge factor in creating a look that is fresh, youthful, and polished.

3. The more natural the better. Your foundation should never be so noticeable that skin appears heavy, dull, or “made up.” It should look like you’re not wearing anything, (like a second skin). I like to say, “like you’re not trying too hard.”

4. Be prepared to pay more for a good foundation if necessary. The quality and performance should be the deciding factor not always the price. Buy the best you can afford and you’ll be pleased in the long run.

5. Wear a Primer–I recommend wearing a good primer under all foundations for several reasons: Firstly, to keep from clogging pores and to help diminish fine lines, and wrinkles: all while leaving the complexion smoother. Finally, it helps makeup last longer.

These are just a few ways to create a flawless complexion while looking natural and confident.

Next: How to choose a foundation which is perfect for you.

Do you have a drawer full of old, stretched out, too small, out of date underwear? Not only is this a passion killer but it won’t do much for your self confidence either.

Here’s 4 easy steps to untangle your underwear

1. Toss items that are old or don’t fit–even if they WERE a gift. Try on all your bras and panties in front of a mirror. Fit is important and our bodies are always changing. If they don’t work, toss them.

2. Know what you need–generally speaking the average person needs at least three everyday bras to wear beneath most tops, two matching your skin tone for layering under sheer blouses, one black for dark items, one lacy or embellished bra for special occasions, and one supportive strapless option. For panties, 10 of your favorite pairs will do.

3. Find a good place for them–Sort lingerie by color, silhouette or function. Keep go to items in the front of your drawer, everything else in the back.

4. Separate out your workhorses and non-lingerie–Devote one area or drawer to items which deliver support i.e. spanx, short slip, convertible bra. Store sports bras with exercise clothes. Keep chemises on padded hangers in your closet so when you’re in the mood to wear them, you won’t have to worry about ironing.

Now you’re ready to feel and look comfortable in your clothes not to mention your own skin.

What do you do now that he/she/it is finally here? Well, when we think of valentine’s we think of red, pink, romance, roses, dinners for two, you know how it goes. Let’s make a deal first: I will handle the beauty/look part and you handle the romance, roses, chocolates or whatever part. So, what’s a girl to wear. Just keep it simple! Let’s try some juicy, sexy red lip color-(think Sade). Don’t forget the lingerie -(let it be sexy, fun, and whimsical), find your signature scent–it’s your finishing touch to your look. Remember, the visual is powerful but scent is memorable. Now you’re ready for a fun, seductive evening full of romance and kisses. You go girl!

I’m sure when you were growing up, you had ideas about who/what you wanted to be when you grew up. Go ahead and glance back 10, 15, even 20 or more years. What is the image you saw of yourself? Are you that person? Are you happy and successful? Are you attractive and living in abundance? What about your self image? Do you look the way you imagined you would at this point of your life? What small thing can you do as an expression of self love in the name of beauty? For example, Michelle Obama says she has a long standing nail and hair appointment every Friday.
